Sponsorship/Financial Assistance of our Grand Cultural Event
We introduce ourselves as a social & cultural NGO involved in humanitarian activities. We are a non-profit making organization dedicated to the pursuit of issues related to social progressive developments. We have been serving the poor and the downtrodden through activities like free distribution of books, distribution of clothes & blankets, free health check-ups and distribution of medicines, free eye check-up camps etc.
On the cultural side our endeavour is to organize programs & gatherings which highlight the rich culture of our country. Kolkata is the Cultural Capital of India with different languages, costumes, customs and cultures.
With the onslaught of Western Culture, people specially the younger generation are drifting away from our own cultural heritage. This can be best viewed in the month of December when People gather around clubs and hotels to savour wine and follow the western culture. Younger generation do not find any alternative before them for wholesome entertainment. In order to counter this cultural decadence we have formed our organization SALT LAKE LOK SANSKRITI which conducts various programs to highlight the rich culture and traditions of our vast country.
In Line with our above thinking, We have been organizing a “Village Mela” in the name of
“AAPNO GAON”(Amader Gram ) during the last eight days of December for the last 23 years in
Salt Lake City, Kolkata in close association with and under the guidance of Deptt. Of Tourism, Art and Culture, Govt. Of Rajasthan/Haryana/West Bengal. We create a rural ambience in which the
Mela resembles a “Village”. The whole mela ground reverberates with various cultural programmes in the evening, presented by folk artists of International fame deputed by the Governments of Rajasthan/Haryana. Chefs from Rajasthan prepare various Rajasthani Cuisine, which are served by people dressed in Rajasthani attire with their customary courtesy and hospitality called “Manuhar”.
The program has become India’s unique Mela & only one of its kind which creates a village of Rajasthan/Haryana spreading over 2,50,000 Sq. Ft area at Nicco Park (Big Lawn), Salt Lake City. The colourful mela a organized with the idea to rope in more and more people who can come with their
family and celebrate the year end in an ambience of rural flavour. People get great opportunity to gain positive association with an entertaining cultural event that promotes awareness to our culture & tradition. The 8 day program is visited by thousands of people per day. The program is visited by all Sections of Society. Executives of Big Corporate Houses, Top Dignitaries, Bureaucrats and other sections of society, also visit the mela.
Our sole motto is to present and popularise folk art & culture of our country in its ethnic form to provide healthy and wholesome entertainment to the younger generation and to get them acquainted with our rich culture and heritage.
